Final payment made for Lovettsville Community Park

At the July 1 Board of Supervisors meeting, Lovettsville Mayor Elaine Walker presented the county with a check to cover the final installment of the town's share of the purchase of Lovettsville Community Park.

“It's my pleasure to give this to Chairman York this morning, and even though it doesn't have his name on it, it does have the County of Loudoun on it,” Walker said at the meeting.

The park covers 91 acres across from the Lovettsville Community Center. When completed, it will include playing fields, riding and walking trails, picnic pavilions and an off-leash park.

While Tuesday's check represented the town's final payment of the $200,000 it owed the county for the park, Walker vowed that it “is not the final commitment from the town.”

Within the next year, Lovettsville officials hope to have the walking trail linking the community center to Lovettsville Elementary School completed, along with several picnic shelters.

Town officials along with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, the Lovettsville Park Advisory Committee and the Lovettsville Community Center Advisory Board are working together to develop the park.
