A 20-year-old Manassas man is in custody after leading authorities on a high speed chase from Loudoun County into Fairfax County July 1.

Around 11:30 p.m., a Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputy recognized the car of a man wanted for an assault earlier this year, spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

When he tried to pull the car over, the driver turned off his lights and did not stop. He drove onto the Dulles Toll Road and then exited onto Route 28 south.

Troxell said police chased the car, which was traveling at a high speed, to an apartment complex on Sunrise Valley Drive in Fairfax County, where the driver and passenger ran away.

Awhile later, Fairfax County Police found the driver, Walter Diaz, near Route 28.

Loudoun County authorities charged Diaz with stalking, felonious assault, and speeding to elude law enforcement. He is being held in Fairfax County, Troxell said.
