Eagle Ridge honored for making a difference

Eagle Ridge Middle School's Club 2012 has been selected as a runner-up in the National Middle School Association's Teams That Make a Difference competition.

Club 2012 enables at-risk sixth- through eighth-grade boys to achieve a higher level of responsibility and self-respect.

The goal for the program is to expose Eagle Ridge students to careers that focus on math and science.

Students in the program receive after-school math and science instruction with homework assistance and mentorship from professionals with careers in math and science.

Club 2012 also offers the students opportunities to visit universities that offer advanced and specialized curricula in both math and science.

Teams That Make a Difference is an awards program that identifies people who work to improve the education and well-being of young adolescents.

Sponsored by Pearson and the National Middle School Association, the annual program recognizes teams of any kind.

The runner-up recognition comes with $1,000, a one-year National Middle School Association membership for up to four team members and a $100 coupon valid for any order from NMSA.
