Remembering Dennis McNaught Overstreet

By Beth Lucas

We have lost a beloved North Forker, Dennis Overstreet.

A little over a week ago, Dennis was riding his motorcycle home to his Cockerill Road house from his job at Northrup Grummond on a beautiful day. An accident occurred and Dennis died at the Loudoun Hospital Center shortly thereafter.

Dennis McNaught Overstreet was only 55 at the time of his death and would have celebrated his next birthday in August. Just recently he asked his long-time girlfriend, Susan White of Purcellville, to marry him.

Dennis moved to North Fork many years ago and his stepdaughter Mellissa Persil grew up in the same Loudoun Valley group as our kids. Mellissa recently moved to Tennessee, with Dennis helping her with the move. He was very proud of her.

This has been an exceptionally great spring and summer for gardening, and Dennis' neighborhood contribution was outstanding. Between his fiance, friends, garden, motorcycle and animal friends, he was a very happy man.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Mathilda Overstreet of Purcellville, fiance Susan White, stepdaughter Mellissa Persil, brothers Terry Overstreet of Texas and Brian Overstreet of Florida, sister Patsy Low of Maryland and nephew John Overstreet of Florida.

A memorial service will take place at a later date to celebrate Dennis's life. Memorial contributions may be sent to the SPCA International, P.O. Box 1230, Washington, D.C. 20013-1230.
