Police and fire briefs

The following news happened in Loudoun's public safety fields throughout the week.

Armed robbery reported

A 23-year-old man told police he was robbed by a man with a gun Nov. 15 in Sterling.

The victim said he was walking in the area of Noble Terrace and Royal Villa Terrace about 11:20 p.m. when a man he did not know approached him, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

The man demanded cash and brandished a gun, Troxell said.

The attacker is described as from 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall and in his mid-20s. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a black cap, Troxell said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 703-777-0475. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.

If information you provide leads to an arrest and indictment, you could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Burglary and prowler cases

In the past two weeks, the Leesburg Police Department has received four reports of residential burglaries and prowler complaints, spokesman Lt. Wes Thompson said.

The prowler sightings took place Nov. 5 on Barnfield Square and Nov. 12 on Marshall Drive. There was a burglary attempt Nov. 10 on Washington Street and a burglary Nov. 16 on Salem Court, where the intruder entered through an unlocked door, Thompson said.

Residents are reminded to keep all of their doors and windows locked and to call the police at 703-771-4500 to report any suspicious activity.

Grand larceny charges

Four Baltimore residents were arrested Nov. 15 for trying to steal five rings valued at several thousand dollars from Ketterman's Jewelers in Leesburg, Leesburg Police Department spokesman Lt. Wes Thompson said.

At about 4:15 p.m., several people tried to block the store employees' view as they removed the rings from a display case, Thompson said.

The employees noticed the open display case and got the rings back from the suspects, who left the store before police arrived. One employee got the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects left in, and police pulled them over at the intersection of South King Street and Gleedsville Road, Thompson said.

Ondray M. Gwynn, 49, Rodney S. Waters, 42, Goldie J. Dobie, 50, and Audrey B. Smith, 68, all were charged with conspiracy to commit grand larceny. Gwynn also was charged with grand larceny. All are held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Found not guilty

A Washington, D.C., man was found not guilty in Loudoun County District Court Nov. 13 of forcing his way into an Ashburn home in July and assaulting his estranged girlfriend and her mother.

Andrew Michael Skehan, 25, was charged with burglary and two counts of assault in the incident. During the altercation, the estranged girlfriend's mother stabbed him, according to police.

After the incident, Skehan drove himself to Inova Loudoun Hospital, where he was treated for a stab wound on his shoulder.

During the Nov. 13 hearing, a judge found Skehan not guilty of all charges.

Sobriety checkpoint

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office held a sobriety checkpoint the night of Nov. 15 on Waxpool Road near Beaumeade Circle in Ashburn.

Out of 1,286 vehicles that passed through from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., 49 were pulled over for more screening, Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

One person was arrested for driving under the influence, while six were issued citations for driving on a suspended license and two were issued citations for driving without a license.

A total of 38 citations were issued.
