Inmate's death caused by overdose
A 21-year-old inmate from Sterling who was found dead July 1 at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center in Leesburg died of a drug overdose.
According to an autopsy report from the Medical Examiner's Office in Fairfax County, Matthew Douglas Simpson died from an overdose of a Schedule II narcotic, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.
Shortly before 11 a.m. July 1, Simpson was found dead in his cell. He had been booked into the prison just before 4 p.m. the previous day after violating his probation on two felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, Troxell said.
When releasing the results of the autopsy, Troxell did not specify the exact narcotic Simpson overdosed on. Some examples of Schedule II narcotics are cocaine, opium and painkillers like codeine and oxycodone, according to the U.S. Department of Justice Web site.
There is no indication of foul play in Simpson's death, Troxell said.
An investigation into the death is almost complete. When it is finished, more details may be released, Troxell said.
At the time of his death, Simpson was being held without bond awaiting a scheduled meeting of the Loudoun County Adult Drug Treatment Court, Troxell said.
