By Jeanette Gandhi

Children's clothing sale: Some of the area's best bargains in children's clothing, toys and equipment are found at the Christian Fellowship Church MOPS Children's Sale. This annual event happens this Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and features children's clothing to size 10, toys, books, videos, equipment, furniture, layette and maternity items and more. For complete sales information and directions, visit http://www.cfcmops.com.

Christmas in October: If you're in the market for a different kind of shopping experience this Saturday and want to get a jump on your holiday shopping, The Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will hold a Christmas-in-October holiday shopping event at the Ashburn firehouse. Articles for sale will include jewelry, candles and baskets, and many other unique items. Local businesses will also be participating. The firehouse is located on Ashburn Road in the original village. For more information, call 703-729-0666.

Crafts, home show: If you're a craft vendor in search of a venue, look no further than Broad Run High School The Parent Teacher Student Organization will hold its annual fall craft/home show and market day Nov. 8-10, a.m.-4 p.m. Organizers are looking for crafters, home decorators and local businesses to participate. If you're interested in purchasing a space, email Sara Bogle at busar53@comcast.net. All proceeds benefit the BRHS PTSO community.

Air and Scare: The spookiest time of the year is almost upon us and if your own family doesn't provide enough thrills and chills, here's an event close to home that's sure to please. The Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center hosts the fourth annual Air and Scare Oct. 25. You'll be introduced to the strange and spooky side of aviation and space and hear stories about bugs in space, flying animals, and androids. Meet your favorite Star Wars and Star Trek characters. Take control of a creepy-crawly robot and a Mars rover. Create a spider finger puppet, a Halloween glider, witch rocket and other items to take home. There will also be face painters, story tellers, free simulator rides and activities just for tots. The free event runs 4-8 p.m. and admission is free. There is a $10 charge for car parking. The museum is located at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway Chantilly. For more information, call 202-633-1000 or visit http://www.nasm.si.edu/udvarhazy.

Tales and pumpkins: The Ashburn Library has a program coming up that's designed to appeal to little ones. "Tales from the Pumpkin Patch" will appeal to children ages 4-7. They're invited to plop down in the pumpkin patch at the library for lively stories, song, games and craft, led by the Ashburn Library's Teen Council. Registration is required and begins Sunday. For more information or the register, call 703-737-8100 or visit http://engagedpatrons.org/Events.cfm.
